Message from Taos CEO and Founder, Ric Urrutia,
and Co-Founder, Alexis Tatarsky
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity are two of today’s most bandied about buzzwords. What exactly Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery mean and how they differ depends on who you ask. One thing, however, is certain; the implications of large scale disasters have become all too obvious in recent times and have focused IT executives on coming up with solutions that allow the business to survive and thrive even in the face of the most extreme catastrophe. DR planning has gone from being viewed as “nice to have” to being at the forefront of IT attention and responsibility.
Disasters can come at any time and in any form. They can knock out an organization's internal systems for a few hours or they can bring about the complete destruction of its primary facility. Becoming aware of all the potential threats that can affect the availability of core resources, and developing action scenarios to respond to those threats is vital to implementing a Disaster Recovery Plan and ensuring the continuity of the critical business processes.
In this issue of the Taos Newsletter, IT Intelligence, we're delighted to share an interview we conducted on the topic of Disaster Recovery with Bob Quinn, CIO and Timothy Campos, Senior Director of Enterprise Services both of KLA-Tencor. As a world-wide leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of yield management and process monitoring systems for the semiconductor manufacturing and related microelectronics industries, you can imagine the complex business processes that Quinn and Campos have built and support on a daily basis. In this insightful and open conversation, Quinn and Campos share their perspectives, challenges, trade-offs, and critical decisions they had to make when implementing their disaster recovery plan.
Another perspective comes through an article by Yatish Mishra, President and CTO of RagingWire Enterprise Solutions. RagingWire offers comprehensive services for customers upgrading or implementing disaster recovery and business continuity methodologies and this article, titled “The Critical Steps of Implementing a Successful Disaster Recovery Plan” gives a real-world guide for implementing a best practice disaster recovery plan.
We hope you find these perspectives interesting and useful. As always, we welcome your feedback on the Newsletter, and suggestions for future topics. Taos is privileged to be involved in numerous exciting business and technology initiatives. If you would like to talk to Taos about your Disaster Recovery plan, feel free to contact me directly, at ric@taos.com, or at (408) 588-1200.
Sincerely,
