Ask a room full of CIOs what their thoughts are on Business Intelligence and Business Alignment and you’re bound to get an earful. Needless to say, they are hot topics within our IT Community.
In this issue of our IT Intelligence Newsletter, I am delighted to share an interview that Coco Brown, Taos's COO, and I conducted with Jim Cates, CIO of Altera. Jim talks at length about his techniques to effectively communicate IT value to C-level executives.
We also provide an article by David Axson, founder and President of the Sonax Group, entitled “Management Practices for Effective CIOs”. I first heard David speak at a CFO conference in September of 2004 and I found his talk to be both enlightening and sobering. So much so that I decided to hire David to come out and speak at our 2005 Spring IT Directions Event, warning him in advance that the crowd wouldn’t be the usual “friendly” CFOs that he’d grown accustomed to but instead CIOs and IT leaders that face amazing challenges keeping their C-level bosses happy.
While Jim and David’s viewpoints on business intelligence come from vastly different perspectives, I found each to be interesting and useful and I hope you do as well.
