With a new year ahead of us, we’re
excited about all that this year
will present. As you will see in
Ric’s article “A Perfect Storm,” we
believe that various elements are
coming together to yield
unprecedented opportunities for
growth. Speaking of growth, we’re
excited about the recent arrival of
Gail Burt, the latest addition to
our Office of the CIO practice. You
can find out about her impressive
background in the “Featured Taoser”
section. And finally, because it
wouldn’t be a new year for us if we
didn’t also have a new offering,
we’re showcasing our Infrastructure
Assessment solution. Find out the
details in the information sheet
below. Drop us a line and let us
know what you have planned for 2010!
A
perfect storm is a simultaneous
occurrence of smaller storms which, when
taken individually, would have been far
less powerful than the storm resulting
from their chance combination.
For
the Silicon Valley and greater Bay Area,
2010 will be a “perfect storm” year made
up of four simultaneous events. The
effect of this perfect storm will yield
unprecedented opportunities for
organizations and individuals to take
their game to the next level. The
results will vary and they will be
drastic. You have two choices: you can
embrace the changes and reap huge
rewards, or you can ignore them,
becoming obsolete and facing early
retirement. Read

Public-Key
Infrastructure (PKI): Concepts and
Technology

Security and the Internet
As all Internet communications are
inherently insecure and subject to
eavesdropping and tampering, the
Internet model poses a number of
security issues. Eavesdropping,
tampering, insecure server, denial
of service, downloadable code,
insecure browser and impersonation
and masquerading are some of the
security risks the Internet Model
poses. With the advent of
e-commerce, more and more
confidential and financial
information is transmitted over
public networks. The e-commence
(B2B, B2C, e-government, e-delivery)
systems require that we can
authenticate, identify, and create
relative trust so that we can
conduct business on the public
network. That is where cryptography
comes into play. Read More...
Taos
Infrastructure Assessment Offering
In
the technology world, we know that
businesses change, growth opportunities
arise, leadership turns over, and that
it’s all too easy for IT teams to become
heavily focused on day-to-day
operational tasks. All of this can lead
to a gap between IT infrastructure and
business goals and ultimately require an
objective evaluation to identify the
current state of an organization’s IT
infrastructure. Taos’ Infrastructure
Assessment service is much more
than just a risk discovery process. Our
deep dive into your infrastructure space
provides you with an analysis of
short-term and long-term risks, and most
uniquely, a prioritized remediation plan
for immediate and future action.

“Memories of Taos” Contest
Winner:
Congratulations to our contest
winner Karen Frieberg Mimms, a
’93 alumna who won a Livescribe
pen! Her shared memory was: “I
worked for Taos in 1991 - 1993
on contract at Wyse Technologies
and then SGI where I was hired
on as a permanent employee. I
knew Ric long before Taos at
Benetics where we worked
together. I got laid off from
Benetics and Ric helped me learn
this new technology called
networking! Because of his
belief in me and his generous
spirit, I have been very
successful over my career. I
have many stories of Ric "after
hours" at Benetics and Taos! I'm
thrilled that Taos is still
thriving after 20 years - hard
to believe it's been that long -
and I hope it is still around 20
years from now! Congrats!” To
