Systems and Storage Consolidation
-
Determine opportunities for consolidation
-
Evaluate appropriateness
of consolidation - ROI for maintaining the growth against
the current environment vs. the proposed environment

Where capital
purchases are required, work with management to select appropriate
vendors for consideration, work with vendors to receive appropriate
proposals, and assist management in making the vendor decision

Design
approach to consolidation with consideration to mission
critical systems, downtime tolerance, and budget
The opportunity for significant cost reduction through footprint
consolidation is largely here because of the rapid growth during
the late nineties. It's an area ripe for significant cost savings
- be it in labor to support the infrastructure, facility space,
power, hardware support contracts, software CPU-based licensing
fees, or any number of other areas.
Taos can assist you in finding those cost saving opportunities,
can help you build the ROI for taking the path to get there, and
can help you design the consolidation plan - all in a way that
does not detract from your internal staff who are already working
at full capacity.
Typically, Taos begins these engagements by performing a Baseline
Technology Assessment on the client's infrastructure. By doing
so, we can capture an accurate inventory of the client's servers
and the services provided on that infrastructure as well as extensive
data on resource utilization.
Based upon those results and further information
during the discovery phase, Taos' Professional Services will
architect a number of scenarios to address the client's business
and technical requirements, and outline the pros and cons of
each solution according to those needs. The advantage is that
the client receives designs from an objective, experienced third
party that will act solely in the client's best interest, not
that of any one vendor. Additionally, Taos can further leverage
the information by re-engineering any services as appropriate - to
revamp them at the same time, as part of the project, in order
to maximize the ROI in the cut-over procedure.
Taos will then work with the client's staff to determine the appropriate
architecture, develop a phased migration plan, and develop a business
case to show the financial value of the project. Once approved, Taos
will then quickly develop the detailed Strategic Plan to migrate
the services to the new architecture, including the best deployment
strategy to complete the project - involving an appropriate mix of
client and Taos resources.
