Many companies choose to look at managed services for a variety of reasons. From a need to get out of trouble to simply growing too fast, organizations can be transformed by the right vendor. The key to all of this is to find the right partner. A partner that will go the distance with you for better or worse and not make you pay too handsomely for the worse. It’s about going back to old fashion values and growing together as a team. It’s hard to find a company that goes that extra mile nowadays without expecting the coin, however, some still exist.
1) Solid Process
What process do you use? This should be one of the first questions you ask in the vendor interview. Process should be at the heart of everything a managed services partner executes in your environment. One of the single greatest value-adds a company can receive from its service provider is the process that they bring. Process can allow for an IT environment that has no process to emerge from the shadows and discover the unknown. Process has been the savior of many companies through reducing cost and increasing productivity. Through ITIL framework alone, companies have reduced operation cost by millions.
2) Resource Recovery
We often forget to create resource recovery plans for our most valuable assets: our people. If your key person were to leave your company today, could you pick back up where they left off? If not, ask yourself what the cost would be to your organization if that person were to leave. A managed services provider creates redundancy for your people through the transition process and through integration. Much like an automatic backup solution, it just takes a little push to get started. Once the talks are underway, the intellectual property becomes secured, documented and redundant.
One can often point the failures of technology solutions to lack of knowledge. One of the best features of a managed services solution is the backup team in the rears. When you have a project that you would like to do with your company, but that you don’t have the knowledge to do well, your managed services provider should be popping into the room with a grin from ear to ear. Look for a service provider that is an outside-the-box inventor and pioneer. They should love adventure and will have the expertise from completing projects like yours for many clients before you.
